About me

I'm a down-to-earth kiwi based in Wellington with an interest in the amazing technology being pumped out of the world at the moment. Internet use and social interaction has become a standard daily experience and I am certainly happy with the growing digital world.

I believe the digital industry is the future and I am excited to be part of this world.

As a .NET developer, I am getting to interact with some amazing tools created by some very amazing people

A few things that interest me

API and front end development

I was facinated with the architecture of separating the front end to the business model processing with individual servers when I first learnt about it. Management becomes easier & the applications feel cleaner. I still love working with both sides though

Mobile Apps

There are a few tools that have really made life easier. It's quite amazing what some developers have created.
Innovative, creating and always entertaining, mobile apps are something I would love to work with.

Getting fresh air & sun

Heading to the beach, a drive or just catching up with family and friends for a BBQ. Getting together out in the sun is very relaxing and I enjoy it every summer.

Staying in

Sometimes there's nothing better than putting on a movie and sitting on the couch with my wife and a hot drink.

The Community

The I.T industry has a rich community in terms of developers. With so many teams embracing the open-source project style, and getting involved with Blogging, there is masses of amazing tutorials, code snippets and even live tutorials that demonstrate some very unique ideas and provide inspiration to developers like myself.

Being a developer has exposed me to a raft of different tools and technologies

Due to a lack of work availability when I started my first I.T job, my first task as a developer was to study for a Microsoft .NET exam. This exam introduced me to ASP.NET web forms, JQuery and AJAX. It also built on my existing knowledge of database interactions and Javascript.
It was through this that got me onto the .NET path.

The coding language that I majorly use is ASP.NET with C#, though I also have experience with the following

- Performed various recruitment interviews as part of the interview panel
- Went to WelTec and gave a formal talk on the Cadetship program
- Sat on the Fronde interview panel for a cadetship intake

By day I work for an I.T shop in Wellington called Fronde.

The following are some projects that I have been involved with in my time at Fronde so far.

Redesign of QV.co.nz

PropertyIQ

PropertyIQ decided that it was time to redesign the qv.co.nz website and services, so they started a project named "Phoenix". The development project went live in July 2013 after running for 18 months, with backlog developing currently in progress.
Running a separated architecture of a Web UI and an API back-end built using Microsoft Web API, build on .NET 4, the project was a great learning curve and good experience for me.

Enhancement Development of QV.co.nz

PropertyIQ and Quotable Value (QV)

QV.co.nz is a website that offers property market insights and informative reports for properties in New Zealand.
The work done for this was mainly minor fixes and improvements, but it was a great project to get me working with the Microsoft .NET stack.
